Eva, I'm sorry for your loss. Your grandfather looks like a strong person in this picture. My family had a small party for my mother when she turned 100 too. She was striking in her photo just like your grandfather is in his. She also passed on a couple months after her birthday. Always a goal setter, my thought has always been that getting to 100 was her last goal. Like the others she set, she made this one too.
Yes, that's what my family and I think, too. Maybe once he had his 100th birthday he thought, "ok, I think I'm done now." His health went pretty quickly downhill after the party and he passed away a few months later. Congrats to your mother for making it to 100. Quite an achievement!
We certainly do need thick skin. A friend of mine was taken on by top agent, love her book, promised her great things, sent book out. Radio silence for three months then they crawled back to say sorry we couldn’t sell it. It’s a fabulous, funny, feisty book so we’re all astonished. And while I’ve had a year of struggling with my confidence, I’ve just been longlisted for a big novel competition and been accepted for an advanced writing course out if lots of applicants. All in one week! So we mustn’t give up 😊
Congrats on all your recent successes! Another thing I didn’t mention in here, but I’ve definitely learned to celebrate the “champagne rejections.” I didn’t get accepted to a writing retreat recently, but I got a personal rejection that was VERY encouraging, and I took that as a win!
So true that we need to be resilient as writers. Sensitive souls with thick troll skins!
Also, I’m sorry to hear about your grandpa. 100 is such a milestone he was blessed enough to reach. I’m glad you did that interview with him when you did.
Funny I just wrote a post about resilience (to go out next week). Shows how important this topic is to us writers!

Oh absolutely! It helps to look for the positives 😊
