Love the de facto "writer in residence" thing.

This line from the WaPo article about reader pet peeves almost made me spit out my coffee: Susan C. Falbo is tired of “protagonists who have had a hard day, finally stagger home and take a scalding hot shower.”

I know, it's hilarious! And then there's the woman who doesn't like when donkey poop is described like human poop... what book is SHE reading???

We're on the same path about deciding to write full-time, and I resonate a lot about if we can actually call it a career if it pays little to none but YES, if this is the career we really want. Follow the dream and the money will follow, not the other way around. Thank you for sharing!

And even if the money doesn't follow, at least you're living your life doing something you love. I was so miserable teaching high school math, so I have no regrets. And now, a decade later, I am make some money with writing. I teach writing classes, I make (a little) money writing this newsletter. It just took a long time! Where are you on your path?

i agree! i left the medical field too. i didn't have the chance to study creative writing academically even though i wanted to since HS. but now that i rely on side hustles to sustain my living and the little money i get from the newsletter (through buy me a coffee because Stripe is not yet available in my country), i have more time to at least attend some free (for now) writing workshops, read more, and write regularly. i'm still a seed! but i started my newsletter really as a commitment to myself to still keep going. 🤍

I know, right? Here's what you do: you talk to your friend who lives in a somewhat isolated area and is wishing she had more friends around, you complain to her about how you have no time to write and that your job is sucking your soul. Next thing you know, she's offering you her guest room for a year! (Forever grateful to you, Nikki!)
